When you love something you’ll definitely make it a part of your life. Travelling is my passion and I guess you know it. Now I want to introduce a new project I’m involved in – OWLBUT’s World of Learning – it’s a project for kids to learn more about the UK. We will be travelling around the coast for about an year, filming, taking photographs, writing loads of interesting stories and sharing withyou.
Owlbut is the name of a toy (short-eared owl), clever one and very curious – he’ll be guiding us on our tour and appear in every video we take. He is the main character of the project!
It all started thirty years ago when Richard (producer) took his family on a year-long journey around the UK. He’d write newsletters every week and send to the papers. That’s how it looked
After that trip Richard did the journey another twice. Now he’s got a team of four people, a few cameras, all the equipment and a great deal of ideas. The aim of the project is to share the excitement of exploring new places, encourage kids and their parents for a healthier lifestyle and spend more time outdoors together.
Incredible experience you get through travelling with your family will have a lasting impact on personalities. You’ll gain knowledge through the touch of reality, seeing different people, learning about their lifestyle, eating habits, social behaviour and culture. You’ll see how different we are and yet still share so many common qualities which might lead one to tolerance and broaden their view of the world.
Coming back to the project, I wanted to explain how it’s going to work. First, we’ll be travelling around the UK coast starting in February 2015. Each week there will be 4 video uploads. These will cover:
– a vlog giving you an over view of our week and what we have seen
– a video taking you into a myth or legend connected to the area we are in
– a video which looks at particular topic connected to our coastline, maybe rivers, erosion, cliffs etc.
– a video of some of the amazing wildlife that we know we will find around the coast
There will be a blog from our journey (I’m doing it). Four sections will be just text and pictures as we believe it is still very important to improve your reading skills. Please read more on our website.
As well as visual materials and articles, we’ll be running Owlbut’s club – an interactive club on our site – with competitions, games and a range of activities. We’ve got companies to support us, so we’ll be sharing our appreciation with you too, so you’ll find info about them. UK schools are going to join the project and follow us. Loads of interesting stuff is coming soon, stay with us!
